1. What We Collect (and What We Don't)

The Markdown Viewer tools run entirely inside your own browser. When you paste, type, or upload Markdown to preview, format, or convert it, that content is handled locally on your device and is never transmitted to us. There is no sign-up and no account needed to use any tool. Because nothing you edit leaves your browser, this approach fits comfortably within GDPR principles for data minimization.

The Markdown content you work with is never stored on our servers.

2. How Your Information Is Used

Any Markdown you enter exists only for as long as you have the page open, and it is used solely to render the preview or produce the output you asked for. As soon as you close or refresh the tab, that working content is gone — we do not log it, back it up, or reuse it for anything.

The one time we do receive personal details is when you reach out to us directly through the contact page. In that case we collect:

• Name
• Email Address

We only use those details to reply to your message, and we will not hand them to third parties without your permission. Whatever you share with us is treated carefully, in line with widely accepted FTC guidelines on privacy and security.

3. Measuring Usage & Site Analytics

To understand which tools people find useful and to keep the site running smoothly, we rely on Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. These give us a high-level picture of traffic and usability without ever touching the Markdown you are editing.

Google Analytics: This tells us aggregate things like which pages get visited, roughly how long people stay, and how they move through the site. It never captures the content you type into a tool. Microsoft Clarity: Clarity helps us spot interface problems by recording anonymized interaction patterns. Sensitive on-screen content is masked, and nothing that could identify you personally is exposed to us. You can review how it works in the Microsoft privacy statement.

Advertising: The site does not currently display ads. Should we introduce them in the future, we will update this policy and note any advertising partners and their data practices here beforehand.

4. Server Logs

Whenever a page loads, the server that hosts markdownviewer.ca keeps a short technical record of the request — the kind of housekeeping log that every web server produces. A typical entry notes the requesting IP address, which browser and version made the call, the specific page that was requested, and a timestamp for when it happened along with how long the visit lasted. None of this touches the Markdown you paste into a tool; it is purely operational data used to keep the service healthy.

5. Cookies & Your Choices

A cookie is a small file, occasionally holding an anonymous identifier, that a website tucks into your browser. Between us and our analytics providers, cookies may be used to keep track of your preferences and to gauge how the site is being used. The choice is entirely yours: most browsers let you refuse cookies completely or prompt you before accepting one, and our own use of them stays in line with common cookie practices.

6. Keeping Your Data Safe

Protecting whatever information passes through the site matters to us, and we would rather be candid than overpromise: no method of sending or storing data over the internet is ever completely foolproof. That said, our strongest form of protection is simply how the tools are built. Since the Markdown you work with lives only in your browser and is never written to our systems, there is effectively no copy of your content sitting on a server for anyone to reach. For the small amount of data we genuinely do process, we follow practical technical and organizational safeguards that align broadly with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

7. Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised now and then as the site evolves. When that happens, we will post the updated version right here on this page. It is a good idea to check back occasionally, since any changes take effect as soon as they are published.
